In this episode, I take a look at three of the main points of JD Hall’s argument and provide an alternative that I believe comports with Scripture and the Reformers far more than his. Enjoy!
It is really very simple. When you dig deep enough into the Greek text for Romans 13:1 you find that the only law being discussed is Law that is based in the “I Exist” or I AM”. In fact the text leads one to believe that any law man makes is man trying to be a god. Verse 4 should make the law being discussed obvious. 1 Peter 2:13-14 does not disagree.
Really? I am well-trained in Koine Greek and my response is that your claim has no basis in reality. This little sentence is all one needs to refute your claim: αἱ δὲ οὖσαι ⸆ ὑπὸ ⸇ θεοῦ τεταγμέναι εἰσίν. EVERY AUTHORITY that is, IS ESTABLISHED BY GOD. The language is very straightforward.
